I would like to share with you what I think is the most important component in face of any illness or a season, a lot more important than vitamins, herbs, acupuncture, or even exercise. Inspired by a piece written my mentor Nick Gonzalez, MD, who was successfully treating the most difficult cases of cancer until he died few years ago, I wanted to make couple of points.

People who are in a constant state of panic and anxiety weaken their immune system and have a harder time recovering from any cold or flu. When you are in a state of panic, your sympathetic nervous system turns on and you have a harder time recovering in general. So, you’ve got to stop the panic, stop the anxiety, do whatever helps you. For some of us its prayer, for others, regular exercise or acupuncture sessions, for yet others- relaxing music, talking to a friend, changing your mindset, dancing regularly, affirmations, or just deciding one morning that you are now panic free!!! – do whatever works for you.

When we don’t know what we are doing because there is so much information out there, we have a hard time making decisions of how to treat ourselves from any illness. The inability to make decisions creates anxiety and that in turn lowers your immune system. So, my suggestion, when dealing with any kind of illness, don’t read what’s on the internet, pick someone you respect or something that makes sense to you, and know in your heart that you are on the right path.
