About Dr. Yanover

Dr. Marina Yanover is a naturopathic physician and a licensed acupuncturist. As a primary care physician, she performs annual physicals, and orders laboratory testing, but she blends these routine procedures with a more patient-focused and caring approach. Each patient is viewed as a unique physical, emotional and spiritual being; with that always in mind, Dr. Yanover offers individualized treatments which may include counseling, massage, nutritional support, herbal preparations, acupuncture and other modalities known to help restore balance to the body. This balance will encourage the body to heal itself, a natural phenomenon which is the underlying goal of naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Yanover’s areas of expertise are women’s health, children’s (pediatric) health, digestive and metabolic disorders, immune enhancement, pain management, and skin care. She places a lot of emphasis on nutrition; she is great at combining herbs and formulating herbal products. She sees a lot of people with chronic diseases and conditions and can offer treatments and plans using naturopathic treatments, Chinese medicine, herbal medicine and holistic medicine.

Acupuncture is a large part of her practice, and she uses it for relief of stress, depression, pain, sleep disorders, infertility, and many other conditions. As a part of her practice she also does facial rejuvenation treatments using gentle, non-invasive microcurrent therapy derived from the principles of acupuncture. This therapy generally makes people look younger as it helps rid the skin of wrinkles, acne, and other facial imperfections.

Dr. Yanover started her health care training in the Ukraine, part of the former Soviet Union, in the city of Odessa. She finished nursing school in 1991 and worked as a nurse for one year in the Marine hospital department of surgical urology. She also studied the art of massage, and in the same year, graduated from massage school, after which she immigrated to the U.S.

She came to the United States in 1992; she enrolled at BrooklynCollege, a branch of CUNY (City University of New York) in 1993, and pursued a premed course of study. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. During her college career, she volunteered at the local hospitals. It was during this experience that she realized conventional medicine, as practiced in the US, was quite different from the kind of medicine she had become accustomed to in Ukraine. This remarkable contrast in practice philosophies inspired her to become a Naturopathic Physician. After graduating from BrooklynCollege in 1997, Dr. Yanover attended the naturopathic medical and acupuncture programs at the distinguished BastyrUniversity, also known as the “Harvard of natural medicine”, located in Seattle, WA. There she earned the two degrees of ND (naturopathic doctor) and MS in acupuncture. She then did her residency at the GriffinHospital’s IntegrativeMedicineCenter in the state of Connecticut, from which she graduated in 2003. There she incorporated alternative medicine as an adjunct to conventional medical treatments. At the same time, she mentored and supervised the clinical training of students at BridgeportUniversity’s School of Naturopathic Medicine.

In August of 2007, Dr. Yanover went to China to receive additional, intensive training in acupuncture at one of ShanghaiUniversity’s most elite and highly ranked hospitals. If you want to learn more about her experience, click here for the story.
